Eviction from a Council home
We will only evict somebody from a Council-owned home as a
last resort. We will work with the tenant to find an alternative
solution. This is because if we evict a tenant, it can lead to
homelessness; or just move the problem elsewhere.
Tenants can be evicted for a number of reasons
including:
- Persistent and / or long term delay in paying rent;
- Anti-social behaviour which has become intolerable to other local residents; and
- Serious breach of the terms of the tenancy agreement.
Before evicting someone, we will work very hard to find a
solution. We will always write and visit a tenant warning them that
we intend to go to court seeking their eviction. The tenant may be
entitled to representation in
court.
