Some industrial processes have the potential to cause
pollution and are regulated to control their emissions to air,
water and land.
The Pollution Prevention and Control (England and Wales)
Regulations 2000 were introduced to regulate pollution from these
processes.
There are currently three types of process
classification.
- Part A1 processes are regulated by the
Environment Agency
- Part A2 and B processes are controlled by local
authorities.
There are currently no A(2) installations in
Richmondshire.
Examples of Part B Processes in Richmondshire are:
- vehicle re-spraying
- quarrying
- mobile crushing and screening plant
- unloading of petrol at service stations
- dry cleaning
Applications
Any person operating a process that requires a permit must
submit an application, with a fee, to the local
authority. Richmondshire District Council will then
issue a permit in accordance with government guidance.
The operator of the prescribed process must comply with the
conditions of the permit and they will be subject to inspection to
ensure this is the case. The Council will provide assistance and
advice in submitting an application.
