Industrial Pollution

Some industrial processes have the potential to cause pollution and are regulated to control their emissions to air, water and land.

 

The Pollution Prevention and Control (England and Wales) Regulations 2000 were introduced to regulate pollution from these processes.

 

There are currently three types of process classification.

Any person operating a process that requires a permit must submit an application, with a fee, to the local authority. Richmondshire District Council will then issue a permit in accordance with government guidance. The operator of the prescribed process must comply with the conditions of the permit and they will be subject to inspection to ensure this is the case. The Council will provide assistance and advice in submitting an application.
