What Do We Mean by Culture?
Accordian player

We all have our own ideas of what culture means. It has often been associated with ballet, theatre, museums but in Richmondshire culture includes a very wide range of everyday activity.

For us  culture includes all of the following activity:

Archives,  Characteristic design and building, Choirs and bands, clothing and fashion, Countryside pursuits, Creative industries, Customs & traditions, Film, television & radio, Food and drink, Historic environment, History and memory, Landscape and nature, Language & dialect, Libraries, Museums & galleries, Music, Night-life, Performing arts, Play, Reading, Spirituality and beliefs, Sports, Tourism, Visual arts, Writing and storytelling.
In order to support the development of culture in Richmondshire we have developed a Cultural Strategy. To deliver this strategy the Council works in partnership with Richmondshire Cultural Consortium.
