Approximately 30,000 winter deaths occur each year,
predominately the elderly, due to the cold weather. It
is estimated that 8,500 people in Richmondshire suffer
from fuel poverty, living in cold and damp homes that they are
unable to keep warm.
With gas and electricity prices rocketing, now is the time for
everyone to take action to reduce their bills and save
energy.

entitled to receive services such as a password protection scheme,
quarterly meter readings, annual gas safety check and much more if

- Have long term ill health

The North Yorkshire and Humber Energy Saving Trust advice
centre is a non-profit organisation funded by Government to provide
free and impartial advice on saving energy. Expert advisors can
tell you how to save money in the home with simple energy saving
tips, talk to you about generating your own energy with renewable
technology and advise on driving down your fuel costs with

Yorkshire Limited (S4Y) runs the contract for the Energy Saving
Trust advice centre for North Yorkshire and the Humber. S4Y is a
not-for-profit company owned by local authorities in York and
North Yorkshire and delivers projects to support householders,
businesses and communities to become more sustainable.
You may also be eligible for grants and discounts for home
improvements, including
- Cavity wall and loft insulation
- Boiler replacements
- Central heating system installation
- Draught Proofing
- New appliances
What grants are available? The Energy
Saving Trust can arrange free loft and cavity wall insulation.
Provided you are aged over 60 (or have a child under 16), own your
own home and live in council tax band A, B or C, it is likely that
you can get the work done for free. There is also a £1000 grant
towards installing a solar thermal system for hot
water.
Don't worry – if you are not eligible for certain grants, the
Advice Centre can refer you to other deals that offer excellent
discounts.
Generate your own renewable energy
Launched on 1st April 2010 the Clean Energy Cashback (also known as
the feed-in-tariff) gives you guaranteed fixed-price payments for
each kWh of renewable energy you generate.
