Sustainability Appraisal

Skip main content Skip main content
To ensure that Local Development Framework documents contribute to sustainable development they must be subject to a Sustainability Appraisal (SA), incorporating the requirements of the EU Directive on Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA).

The first stage of this process is to produce a Scoping Report (updated January 2008) (pdf, 2.12mb), to establish the 'baseline' of the District and identify some of the key issues that could affect the sustainability of the District.

The next stage is to carry out a Sustainability Appraisal which considers the sustainability implications of the range of policy options identified in emerging LDF documents. The appraisal process involves testing the policy against the sustainability objectives, which were identified in the Scoping Report.
