Richmondshire District Council is responsible for
ensuring that buildings are properly designed and constructed so as
to ensure the health, safety, welfare and convenience of people
using them.
All building work must comply with the
Building Regulations current at the time the work is
undertaken.
The building control team in the Environment Service
administer the Council's building control service.
There are three ways to ensure compliance, two through
the Council, and one by the use of a private building control
provider. The local authority inspect plans for new buildings
to check compliance with regulations and periodically inspect the
site during construction to ensure approved plans are adhered
to.
