Working Together in
Colburn - A Neighbourhood Pilot Project
What is neighbourhood
working?
Neighbourhood working involves working with a community to
identify what issues local people feel are important and planning
together to resolve these issues.
What are we aiming to
achieve?
- The LSP wants to get better at partnership working and
particularly how its works in neighbourhoods.
- We want to understand if we can make more improvements if we
work together in a different way.
- We want to understand how we can get communities more involved
in neighbourhood working
- We want to pilot an area having a Local Community Action Plan
(LCAP)
- This is a pilot – if it works well the LSP will want to do
something similar in other areas.
We have chosen Colburn for
our pilot. Why?
- It’s a vibrant community
- There’s a good history of people working together
- There are already some good examples of the community doing
things for themselves.
- We want to understand what already works well in Colburn
- We expect that some of the issues we come across we will also
find in other parts of the district and we want to learn what works
and what doesn’t

Workshop
Re-Launch
The Colburn Neighboruhood Project was re-launched in June
2010. A workshop was held for partners and members of the community
who wanted to be more involved in the newly formed Colburn
Task Groups which are based on Colburn's five priorities. Each Task
Group is made up of relevant partners who will work collectively to
deliver the Local Community Action Plan.

Anti-Social Behaviour
Posters
One of the main issues Colburn expressed as a community is the
issue of Anti-Social Behaviour, with this is mind the project
group wanted to create Posters highlighting the relevant contact
information for anyone who is dealing with such
issues around their home. The posters give vital contact
numbers for anyone wishing to report incidents of Anti-Social
Behaviour, to the Community Safety Team or the Police.

6th December Project Launch - 7,000 daffodil bulbs planted!

On the 6th December members of the local community met to begin
planting 7,000 daffodils. Despite snow and ice 1,000 bulbs were
planted and on the 8th December staff from Richmondshire
District Council completed the task. Bulbs have been planted on the
green spaces adjacent to the Broadway shopping area, Piper Hill, in
woodland at the Chase housing estate and in open space adjacent to
Albermarle Drive.

Throughout the year, the Neighbourhood Project Team has
participated in extensive consultation with residents,
businesses and employee's, living and working in Colburn. As a
result, the 'Local
Community Action Plan' was produced, with ownership
belonging to Colburn and its residents. The Local Community
Action Plan not only highlights the priorities and issues raised
during the consultation process, but also presents solutions
suggested by residents to these concerns. If you would like to
become involved or would like to find out more information about
the LCAP, then call 01748 829100

'Colburn Community Action Day' on 12th August, was a great
success with many of the issues raised by residents being resolved
on the day. Partners such as, Fire and Rescue service, Tenants
Panel and the District Council Street Scene installed home
safety equipment, fitted new windows, cleaned roads and
maintained all open community spaces around the Piper Hill
play area. North Yorkshire Police also engaged with members of
the community and addressed any areas of concern.
