Almost 50 Richmond residents have been sowing the seeds
of an idea at a community garden planning event.

The ‘Planning for Real’ consultation event was held at the
site (pictured above), just off Reeth Road, to enable local people
to give their views on the design and future use of the garden to
ensure everyone has the chance to be involved.
Three members of BTCV (British Trust for Conservation
Volunteers) were on hand to provide expertise, as residents of all
ages discussed how they would like to see the space in the
future.
“I’m glad that so many people took the trouble to let us know
what they think”, says Anne Lawrence from BTCV. “The idea
seems have really caught on and we’ve had some great suggestions,
particularly regarding play in the space.”
The work to transform the area will be funded by the District
Council and Richmondshire Community Safety Partnership
(RCSP). Local companies, including J & B Farnaby at
Scotch Corner, Kiplin Hall and Marfield Quarries have also pledged
their support.
“It’s been a fun consultation for a very worthwhile project”,
says Liz Smith, RCSP Chair. “Now it’s time to look forward to
seeing the ideas become reality over the coming months, to benefit
the community in future years.”
