Eighteen young people from across Hambleton and
Richmondshire took part in firefighting training this
summer.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service – in
partnership with Hambleton and Richmondshire Community Safety
Partnership and North Yorkshire Police – ran two ‘Inspire’ courses
at Colburn Fire Station.
Firefighters worked with young people from 10
to 18 to address issues of fire safety and anti-social behaviour
and provide practical fire fighting and first aid training, with
the aim of making the young people an inspiration to their peers
and the communities they live in.
“The crew and staff who supported the
Inspire courses were really impressed with the commitment and
enthusiasm shown by the young people,” said Dave Pitt, Station
Manager at Richmond Fire and Rescue Station.
“We hope they will be inspired to develop the
team working, use of initiative and confidence they have built upon
during the courses and be an inspiration to others in their
community.
“We certainly seem to have inspired an
interest in a career in the fire service amongst certain members of
the group and all the young people will hopefully remain focused on
their future careers throughout the remainder of their time in
education. If the key skills that they have learnt on the course
are utilised then they have a bright future ahead of
them.”
