A campaign to promote safe driving
through the winter months has been launched across Hambleton and
Richmondshire.
The district’s Community Safety Partnership
has hosted a series of educational roadshows and aired adverts on a
local radio station.
“With the prospect of bad weather road safety
is a major concern for all of us,” said Road Safety Task Group
Chairman, Councillor Michael Heseltine.
“Everyone must put safety first and question
whether their journey really is necessary. We urge everyone to take
care on our roads this winter.”
The radio adverts continue until January with
the key messages:
- make sure tyre pressures are at the
recommended level
- make sure vehicle lights are clean and in working order
- make sure windscreen wipers are working effectively and washer
bottles are full and contain a suitable additive to prevent
freezing
- make sure windows and mirrors are completely clear of ice and
condensation
- have a can of de-icer and a scraper in the car at all time
- consider taking a flask of hot drink, a blanket and a shovel on
long journeys
