A new website to chart the progress of
seven North Yorkshire groups competing for a £500 cash pot to
support a ‘green’ project has been launched.
The ‘Green Neighbourhood Challenge’ site will
show the work of the two Hambleton and Richmondshire groups taking
part - Brompton Allotment Group and the St. Johns Centre in
Catterick.
The groups have pledged to live more
sustainably as part of the Yorkshire Energy Partnership’s regional
carbon cutting campaign. They are competing to see
which team can make lifestyle changes to save - and generate - the
most energy, cut emissions and encourage local people to live a low
carbon lifestyle.
The aim is to achieve an 11% reduction in
their carbon footprint by the end of 2011. The winners will
earn the title ‘North Yorkshire’s ‘Greenest Neighbourhood Team’ and
receive £500 worth of goods for a local environmental project.
The new website also includes money saving and
energy efficiency advice, team calendars, news and galleries.
Its interactive tools and free downloads are to be used by the
challengers but are also available for anyone wanting to live a
greener lifestyle, cut their own carbon footprint and energy
bills.
