Homes in five villages are being
targeted as part of a scheme to ‘heat up’
Richmondshire.
Each property will be assessed for free – or
heavily subsidised – insulation measures and households in need of
heating support will be identified.
The District Council is working with GoWarm as
part of its commitment to tackle fuel poverty and improve energy
efficiency within the district – through an area based programme of
cavity wall and loft insulation measures, benefits assistance and
energy advice.
The GoWarm project has been running successfully
across the North East of England since the end of 2007. It
was set up with funding from Defra, National Grid and ScottishPower
and so far has helped more than 65,000 householders.
Homes in Barton, Melsonby, Newsham, Middleton
Tyas and Croft are to receive a letter introducing the scheme
followed by a visit from a member of the GoWarm assessing team.
The team will gather data on the property - and
the householder - to identify households which qualify for
insulation measures and heating support.
Qualifying households will have the work carried
out for free under the council’s energy efficiency grant scheme –
everyone else will come under the heavily subsidised scheme.
A household survey on physical measures and
provision of energy advice will follow. They will be carried out by
GoWarm’s team of ‘in-house’ surveyors.
