A Richmond based church has won
almost £10,000 in funding to train a new generation of volunteers
for the district.

The Kings Church has won the Awards for All
cash to provide free training to groups needing driving and
catering help.
“Many church and voluntary groups find the
cost of training hard to bear,” said Linda Curran, Rural Voice
Network Officer for Richmondshire.
“Volunteer minibus drivers need MIDAS training
as an insurance requirement - which costs around £100 per
person. If a group provides food at least one volunteer must
have the CIEH Level 2 in Food Safety, costing £58 per
person. With this funding we can provide free
training for 20 volunteer drivers and put 96 people through the
Food Safety course.”
She said there will also be two training days
to help groups manage their volunteers - provided by Richmondshire
Council for Voluntary Services.
Linda – and Church Minister Keith Hall, both
volunteer each Christmas Day to provide lunch for people who are
alone or homeless. In the past they have struggled to find trained
helpers, but this cash will help solve that problem.
The first Food Safety Course was held in
Colburn earlier this month - ten people (pictured) attended
including volunteers from the local Guides and Brownies and had a
100% pass rate.
There will be seven more sessions around
Richmondshire, including a Food Safety training day in the Upper
Wensleydale Community Office in Hawes and a
Saturday training day in Richmond.
