Tracking waste collections across Hambleton and Richmondshire has never been easier.

For 40 vehicles across the two authorities have been fitted with special tracking devices – meaning that supervisors can instantly see where they are working.

The devices - from Europe's leading mobile resource management provider, Masternaut - capture real time information about location, speed and distance and allow instant two way messaging.

The system – launched this month (September) – will mean as soon as complaints are received answers can be given and vehicles can be diverted for missed collections.

“For many years our refuse crews have had to deal with all manner of problems from bins being put out late; bins being contaminated;and bins not being emptied as well as allegations of incidents involving council owned vehicles,” said Gary Brown, Waste Manager.

“The Masternaut system will overcome many of these issues providing an intelligent ‘bin logging’ system which updates directly from the vehicles.  It allows office staff to see at a glance the current position of the vehicles and where exactly where collections have been made.

“We hope this system will reduce travel time, fuel costs, mileage and emissions; increase customer satisfaction and in some cases achieve increased productivity and efficiency in our work.”
