Hambleton and Richmondshire have taken
the top two slots in a crime league table for rural
communities.
The Community Safety Partnerships for the two
districts have been ranked alongside 13 other similar partnerships
across the UK – Hambleton tops the table with the lowest crime
figures and Richmondshire takes second place.
The rankings are judged on a host of crimes
including burglary, criminal damage, assault, theft from vehicles
vehicle interference and robbery.
“This ranking is a tribute to the hard work
put into the partnerships by all its members – from the emergency
services and councils through to mediation advisors and housing
associations,” said Liz Smith, Chair of the Richmondshire
Partnership and Interim Chair of the Hambleton Partnership.
“And as the community safety partnerships for
the two districts begin to work more closely together we are seeing
greater efficiencies. We hope that this sharing of best
practice will lead to even better crime statistics over the next 12
months.”
She said the two partnerships are funding or
supporting a host of initiatives:
- UNITE Mediation Service (Hambleton) and ARCH
Mediation Service (Richmondshire) - the services deal with
Neighbour Nuisance Complaints, Anger Management and Family
intervention help
- Vale and Dale Handyperson Scheme (known as
‘Secure but Safe’ in Richmondshire) - the scheme provides home
security equipment to the elderly and vulnerable households
- ARC (Alcohol Reduction Campaign) - a campaign involving Trading
Standards and several agencies working closely to educate and
enforce key messages to retailers around responsible retailing in
the Market Towns of Hambleton and Richmondshire
- RESPECT Campaigns (Hambleton) and Safer Sessions
(Richmondshire) - Street Safe Surgeries held in the Market
Town
- IDAS (Independant Domestic Abuse Service) - provides advice and
support to victims of domestic abuse across the Hambleton and
Richmondshire area
- Speed Matrix Groups - monitor speeding issues raised by the
community using temporary radar equipment and flashing signs
- Act Divertz (Hambleton) and Friday Night Football
(Richmondshire) - alternative activities within the community for
young people.
The partnerships are ranked alongside groups
from Devon, West Somerset, North Dorset, Cotswolds, Shropshire,
Derbyshire Dales, Herefordshire, Monmouthshire, East Somerset,
Suffolk, and Worcestershire.
