An emergency scheme is helping Richmondshire residents
to live independently, safely and securely.
The ‘Telecare’ scheme provides help by sending
them alerts. They could be for everything from a reminder to
take medication or turn off the cooker – or to alert family,
friends, carers or the emergency services to dangerous situations
such as falls.
Working in partnership with North Yorkshire
County Council, Richmondshire District Council can install various
items of equipment into local homes.
Bed sensors - a pressure device placed in the
bed under the sheet which senses when the user is in and of bed and
automatically switches on the bedside lamp - can raise an alert if
the resident has not returned to bed within a specified
period. It also switches the lamp off when they get back into
bed.
“Telecare is available to anyone who wants to
feel more confident and safer in their home”, said Councillor Peter
Wood, Richmondshire District Council Housing spokesperson.
“The equipment is not meant to replace family
or other carers who visit but it can give residents and their
family confidence that should they need help, it will be
called.”
