Richmondshire residents are being
asked what they think of plans to transfer stroke services to one
hospital in County Durham.
Although the majority of stroke patients from
Richmondshire go to James Cook in Middlesbrough under NHS North
Yorkshire and York there are some residents who have in the past
and who may in the future still be taken to the hyperacute service
in the County Durham and Darlington area. Under the current
proposals this hyperacute service would be consolidated on one site
and provided at the University Hospital of North Durham.
“Even though this proposed change may only
affect a small number of our residents,” said Councillor John
Robinson, Scrutiny Chairman. “It is very important that
scrutiny councillors ask questions on behalf of the public and that
people get the chance to listen to the proposals themselves and ask
any questions and raise any concerns they may have”.
Richmondshires Scrutiny Committee will be
joined by some representatives of North Yorkshire Scrutiny of
Health Committee and the Richmondshire LINkS Group and have already
sent off 20 advance questions to NHS County Durham and Darlington
regarding the proposed changes.
A public meeting to discuss the consultation
takes place on August 25 at 6pm at Swale House Richmond.
