A major winter ‘safe driving’ campaign
was launched last week – in the snow!

The Hambleton and Richmondshire Community
Safety Partnerships initiative kicked off as part of national ‘Road
Safety Week’ organised by the road safety charity – BRAKE.
The partnerships held educational events at
Catterick Garrison and Thirsk to highlight the campaign which will
deliver leaflet messages, radio broadcasts and education roadshows
from November to March in market towns across the two areas.
“We all know how important it is to get a few
simple messages across and that if people take them on board we
will save lives,” said North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service
Station Manager David Pitt from Richmond.
“People should always wear seatbelts, drive
within the speed limit according to the road conditions and never
consider driving if they have had a drink or may still be suffering
the effects of drinking.”
Organised by 95 Alive, the campaign wants to
see everyone heed the warnings, especially in the bad weather.
Road Safety Task Group Chair, Cllr Michael
Heseltine added: “With the current bad weather road safety becomes
a major concern for all of us. Everyone should put safety
first and question whether their journey really is necessary. The
partnerships urge everyone to take care on our roads this
winter.”
