Richmondshire Community Safety
Partnership’s crime cutting initiatives have come in for
praise.
District Councillors commended the work of the
partnership at a recent Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
Members were told that in the six months to
October last year, nine out of 14 crime type incidents had been
reduced since 2009 with another two showing no change.
Vehicle theft had shown the greatest increase
but initiatives were launched to bring this down – awareness
raising around securing valuables and not leaving items on display
within vehicles.
The Committee was impressed to hear of the
number of initiatives and events that are held in the district each
year by organisations working within the partnership - the
young drivers initiative ‘Drive to Survive’ was highlighted as a
good example.
“Community safety is always at the forefront
of our residents minds,” said Chairman Councillor William
Heslop.
“Members of scrutiny committee monitor the
efforts of the partners in the reduction of crime and disorder
within the district. They are very satisfied with the
commitment of the organisations that make Richmondshire a very safe
place to live. Scrutiny will continue to monitor crime and
disorder within Richmondshire on behalf of its residents”.
