Youngsters playing football in
Richmondshire are getting more than a red card!
Rural Football Development Officer, Emma
Boocock, has kicked off a range of projects around the district to
get young people more involved in the sport at grassroots
level.
They include:
- a six week coaching programme in seven of the district’s
schools - the programme aims is to increase take up in youth
football clubs in the area, by encouraging young players to join
them. So far 158 children are taking part in the programme.
- a friendly football game following on from the success of
‘Friday Night Footy’ – a joint project between North Riding County
Football Association, the 4 Youth Service, North Yorkshire Police
and Richmond Town JFC. Twenty five players, aged
12 – 16 years, from Richmond and Colburn played three 20 minute
matches - with Colburn victorious!
- the ‘Young Leader’ programme running at Risedale Sports and
Community College, developing three young leaders each term. The
programme aims to engage young people in coaching opportunities and
get them involved in helping clubs in the area.
- Richmond Town JFC working towards Community Club status – it
aims to have it completed by the beginning of next season.
- The North Riding County FA officially signing Spennithorne and
Harmby Football Club as a Development Club.
“All these projects are pushing forward
football at grassroots level, “said Emma.
The development for Spennithorne and Harmby is
great news for the club and those involved and increases the number
of football clubs achieving club status in the district.
“It ‘rubber stamps’ the level of quality
football activity happening in our local communities and officially
recognises the hard work and commitment to rural football.”
