Richmond Rotary club helps
support the Catterick Garrison branch of the Soldiers, Sailors,
Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA).
The SSAFA helps and supports those who currently serve and used
to serve in our Armed Forces and also care for their families. At a
meeting at Catterick Garrison on 1st September, Richmond
Rotary Club President Allan Reed (right in the picture) presents a
cheque for £600 to Lorna Bruce, chairperson of Catterick SSAFA in
the presence of Garrison Commander Colonel Nick Millen.
Colonel Millen and Mrs Bruce both thanked the club for the
donation and were particularly delighted with this and other recent
donations which were unsolicited. “this will help strengthen
relationships with the local community” commented Colonel
Millen.
The funds donated by Richmond Rotary Club, were generated at the
club’s highly successful annual golf competition in April at
Richmond Golf club, where 168 golfers took part trying to get one
of the many prizes on offer, each donated by well wishers and
Rotary supporters. This included a hole in one and the prize
of a car for one of the players! President Allan said “we are
really proud to be able to help our local branch of the SSAFA and
support our servicemen and families in their time of need”
