Local residents are being asked for their views on
Hambleton and Richmondshire District Council’s innovative
project to cut costs.
An online poll is asking about the shared services arrangement
between the two authorities – which could bring in efficiency
savings of up to £1.4m by 2013.
The partnership is a first for the region - the two Councils are
now working under a shared Chief Executive and management
structure. So far the ICT, waste, legal, community safety and
reprographics teams are working as one.
Other services are being reviewed progressively to determine
future shared service possibilities.
“Partnership working between the two Councils is not new - we've
been doing this for a while,” said Chief Executive, Peter
Simpson.
“What is changing is the need to become more efficient and this
means looking at how we deliver our services. This is not a
political merger and the identity of both Councils will be retained
- each Council will work to its own corporate plan which drives
forward priorities and business.
“This poll will give us an indication of our customer’s views on
shared services – we think we are getting it right but it is
important that we find out what they think.”
