Richmondshire residents can now
recycle more waste plastic.
The District Council’s larger recycling
centres can now take clear plastic packaging – such as fruit tubs
or meat trays.
A change in the processing stage allows them
to be collected alongside plastic bottles at the centres in
Richmond, the main car, Leyburn, Brompton on Swale, Catterick
Garrison and Colburn.
However only rigid, clear, plastic containers
can be taken - flexible plastics such as. cling film, cellophane,
carrier bags, bin liners, wrappers and some coloured or rigid
plastics (margarine tubs, yogurt pots, foam meat or fish trays,
tupperware, plastic plates or cups and plant pots) cannot be
recycled at these banks.
“This is good news for the district,“ said
Councillor Tony Duff, the council’s Green Living Spokesperson.
“Residents asked for this service in the
survey carried out last year. Resources mean we cannot get extend
it to the kerbside scheme which is disappointing but we will strive
to do so in the future.”
The sites now accepting the plastic packaging
are at:
Richmond – Nun Street Car Park
Richmond – The Co-op
Leyburn – Main Car Park
Brompton-on-Swale -Gatherley Road
Catterick Garrison -Tesco
Colburn – Lorry Park
