The future of eight play schemes in
Hambleton and Richmondshire has been secured.
‘Playbuilder’ projects in Northallerton,
Aiskew, Nether Silton, Preston under Scar, Catterick, Catterick
Village, Richmond and Scotton will go ahead as planned.
North Yorkshire’s allocation for the
Department of Education Playbuilder scheme has been unaffected by
the spending review – it will receive 100% of its original
allocation. It means the Hambleton and
Richmondshire schemes are unaffected – there were fears they may
have to be slimmed down.
Administered by North Yorkshire County
Council, savings of 37% had been expected as part of an overall
national saving of £20.8m.
The Hambleton and Richmondshire Play
Partnerships have been supporting the scheme for the last two years
– delivering five projects so far. In Hambleton £50,000 has
created a play area in Stokesley’s North Road, £25,000 has
developed a play area in Ingleby Arncliffe and another £43,000 has
refurbished Easingwold’s Memorial Park. In
Richmondshire £25,000 was awarded towards the £40,000 Piper Hill
area in Colburn.
"In Richmondshire - like the rest of
North Yorkshire - we are delighted to have received full
support from the Department of Education for our new play
schemes. It is great news for all the groups who have worked
so hard to improve play provision for the children across the
district,” said Councillor Jane Branch, Chairman of Richmondshire
Play Partnership.
And Councillor Peter Wilkinson, Hambleton
spokesperson on leisure added: “We have already delivered three key
projects that are giving our young people places to meet and
play. Securing this cash means another three schemes get the
go ahead.”
The seven schemes - to be completed by the end
of March next year are: Applegarth Park, Northallerton:
£49,000; Kingfisher Drive Play Area, Aiskew: £37,000; Nether Silton
Play
Area: £20,000, Preston under Scar £15,000,
Army Welfare Service – Coronation Park £49,738, Scotton £30,000 and
Catterick Village £30,000.
