Children and parents living in six
villages across Hambleton and Richmondshire are set to have
‘playful’ summer holidays.
For the district council led Play Ranger
project is stopping off in Helperby, Middleham, West Burton, Great
Smeaton, Catterick Village and South Otterington. The team
will be organising everything from den building and sports to mud
pie and kite making.
Funded by the Big Lottery Fund the project
aims to take play into rural areas where there is little or no play
provision. By the end of this, its third and final year, the
project will have visited 18 villages.
“This project aims to promote the need for
children to experience challenging play to ensure they are better
equipped to manage risk and challenge in their daily lives,” said
Play Ranger Nicole Graham.
“Through play they explore the world around
them and develop and practise skills. This project teaches
children how to manage challenge and risk for themselves in
everyday situations.”
Information packs are being distributed via
local schools inviting children and parents to register to join in
the fun. The project is aimed at 5 – 11 year olds. For
further details contact Nicole Graham on 01609 767297.
