Children and parents living in West
Burton are set to have a ‘playful’ half term holiday.
The Hambleton and Richmondshire Play Ranger
project is visiting the village for a week of fun and games.
From May 31 to June 4 they will be able to
have a go at everything from den building and sports to making go
karts and kites.
Funded by the Big Lottery Fund the three year
playranger project takes play into the rural areas of Hambleton and
Richmondshire where there is little or no provision.
Playranger Nicole Graham, and her team visit six villages each year
of the programme.
“This project aims to promote the need for
children to experience challenging play to ensure they are better
equipped to manage risk and challenge in their daily lives,” said
Nicole.
“Play is an essential part of every child's
life and is vital to their development. Through it they
explore the world around them and develop and practise
skills. This project teaches children how to manage challenge
and risk for themselves in everyday situations.”
Information packs for the West Burton week are
currently being distributed through the local school inviting
children and parents to register to join in the fun. The
project is aimed at 5 – 11 year olds with parents encouraged to
stay with younger children.
