Children and parents living in
Middleham and South Otterington are set to have a busy and
‘playful’ Easter holidays.
For the Hambleton and Richmondshire Play
Ranger project stops off in Middleham from April 11 – 16 and South
Otterington from April 18 – 22 - they will be able to have a go at
everything from den building and sports to making go karts and
kites.
Funded by the Big Lottery Fund the three year
project aims to take play into the rural areas of Hambleton and
Richmondshire where there is little or no play provision.
Play ranger Nicole Graham and her team visited 6 villages last year
and have another 4 on the programme list for 2011.
“This project aims to promote the need for
children to experience challenging play to ensure they are better
equipped to manage risk and challenge in their daily lives,” said
Nicole.
“Play is an essential part of every child's
life and is vital to their development. Through it they
explore the world around them and develop and practise
skills. This project teaches children how to manage challenge
and risk for themselves in everyday situations.”
Information packs are being distributed via
the local school inviting children and parents to register to join
in the fun. The project is aimed at 5 – 11 year olds.
