Richmondshire’s Community Sport
Network, Active Richmondshire, is looking for a new
leader.
The voluntary position of chair of the group
is up for grabs after Phil Woodyer retired after 3 years.
Community Sports Networks were developed to
recognise leaders in sport for each community and is used to
enhance communication between partners looking to provide an active
healthy lifestyle as well as catering for the specific needs of the
community.
It enhances the delivery of sporting targets
within the local community taking in the framework determined by
Sport England along with the needs of the local population.
”As physical activity is now regarded as the driving force behind a
healthy lifestyle Active Richmondshire is an invaluable asset to a
vast number of stakeholders,” said Sports Development Coordinator,
Matt Prosser.
“These must be recognised and allowed an input
into the decisions, outputs and outcomes of sport within the
community. Active Richmondshire is this outlet and will
subsequently lead to the development of sport and achievement of
the criteria defined by the Yorkshire plan for sport.”
The group meets once a quarter for a couple of
hours to review progress against the newly established action plan
- support is provided by Richmondshire District Council.
“The input of the chair outside these meetings
is determined by the individual but we hope he or she will be keen
to drive forward sport, physical activity and health priorities for
the district very proactively.”
The work of Active Richmondshire has been
instrumental in seeing the district rank top out of 357 authorities
across the country for the percentage of the adult population (aged
16 years and over) who participate in sport and active recreation,
at moderate intensity, for at least 30 minutes on at least 12 days
out of the last four weeks - equivalent to 30 minutes on 3 or more
days a week).
