Richmondshire District Council has
elected a new Chairman.
Councillor Jill McMullon JP will chair the
authority for the next 12 months with Councillor Clive World as her
deputy.
Councillor McMullon – the ward member for
Middleton Tyas – has been a district councillor for the last eight
years.
Members of the full Council also elected
Councillor John Blackie as leader of the council and Councillor
Mick Griffiths deputy leader. Councillor Blackie
represents the Hawes and High Abbotside ward, and Cllr Griffiths is
the member for Newsham with Eppleby.
Councillor Blackie – who has been a district
councillor for 16 years - said he was proud and honoured to be
elected Leader for the next four years.
“The new Council has set off committed to
comprehensive and meaningful engagement with the local communities
it serves, and determined to provide them with the best possible
services given the age of austerity in public sector funding,” he
said
”Despite the constraints, our mission is to
deliver improvements over the life of the Council that you will be
able to see and touch. And our job to do this starts
today.”
