Redundant sports equipment has been
handed out to schools and youth organisations across
Richmondshire.
Everything from footballs and netballs to yoga
equipment and weights was up for grabs in the Richmond Leisure
Trust ‘giveaway’.
The trust contacted every school and community
group asking if they could give the equipment a new home.
Youth clubs have been allocated some equipment but the main
interest came from schools - Risedale College, Carnagill and Wavell
Primary Schools in Catterick, Leyburn Community Primary School, St
Mary’s in Richmond, and primary schools in Middleton Tyas, Hunton
and Arrathorne, Hackforth, Hornby, and Askrigg have all received
donations.
“All the schools will provide this sports
equipment with a new home where it will be put to good use – and
allow students to use it to its full potential,” said Matt
Prosser the Sports Development Co-ordinator.
“School sport plays a massive part in a
child’s life and we hope that this donation helps add to that
experience, even if it is just a little bit. We live in a
time where we need to make the most of all the facilities and
equipment we have available to us and it felt right to put this
equipment back into the community rather than back into the storage
cupboard to collect dust.”
