Local Government Yorkshire and
Humberlaunch the 2010 Making a Difference
Awards celebrating the achievements of local authorities in the
region.
Local Government Yorkshire and Humber (LGYH)
has launched the fifth annual Making a Difference in Yorkshire
and Humber Awards 2010; recognising the workers and front line
staff from councils, police, fire and national park authorities
throughout the region who have gone that extra mile to make a
difference to the lives of local people.
The Making a Difference Awards celebrate
achievements in culture and sport, economic development,
international working, community cohesion, partnership working and
improving skills.
In addition, this year we are proud to
announce three new awards which will be open to members of the
public to nominate. The awards are ‘Young Employee of the Year’ for
those aged 25 or below; ‘Public Sector Worker of the Year’ for
front line workers and ‘Elected member of the Year’ for Councillors
from the region who have excelled or worked closely with local
communities to achieve real results.
Chair of Local Government Yorkshire and
Humber, Councillor Roger Stone, said; “Our awards recognise the
hard work and commitment of individuals and teams across councils,
police, fire service and national park authorities and honour those
who have gone that extra mile and made a real difference to the
lives of people across Yorkshire and Humber.
During times of economic pressure and budget
cuts the good work of local authority officers and Elected Members
is often overlooked. Events such as the LGYH Making a Difference
Awards allow us to celebrate and promote those front line workers
and officers who are consistently working hard to deliver for local
communities and local people.
This year we hope that many of the region’s
citizens take the opportunity to nominate their local heroes in the
three categories open to the public vote. This is the chance to
make sure that those local authority workers we treasure are
recognised in the way they deserve. “
Nominations can be made by downloading the
application form from the LGYH website, and either posting it or
emailing it using the contact details on the form. Further
information on the categories and criteria is also available.

The Awards will be presented at an event on

sponsorship.
