A major survey on waste, recycling and
street cleaning is set to start next month (December).
Hambleton and Richmondshire District Councils
are asking members of 5,000 households to tell them how satisfied
they are with services the councils provide - and what service
improvements they would like to see.
The information gathered will be compared with
results from similar surveys last year. The two councils are
in the process of creating a shared waste and street scene service
– councillors want to know what residents think of the work so far
– and how satisfied they are with what is being provided.
The 2009 survey indicated that residents
wanted improvements to the recycling service - the inclusion of a
kerbside collection of cardboard and mixed plastics was
requested. Since then clear plastic containers can now
be recycled at the main bring sites. However collection from
the kerbside, along with cardboard, is not possible due to capacity
issues. Other options for the future provision of the service are
currently being investigated.
- In Hambleton, approximately 3,900 surveys are
being delivered randomly by the council’s refuse collection
crews. The questionnaire, once completed, should be posted
back to the council. It can also be completed on line at

- In Richmondshire, approximately 2,200 surveys are being
delivered randomly by the council’s refuse collection crews.
The questionnaire, once completed, should be posted back to the
council. It can also be completed on line at http://www.richmondshire.gov.uk/
