Two schemes to increase play provision
across Richmondshire have received a £48,000 cash
boost.
The ‘Burst’ projects have been received a
grant from the Big Lottery’s Breaching Communities fund.
It will be used by Richmondshire Leisure Trust
- in partnership with the Surestart Children Centres - to help
develop play and sporting opportunities for children of all ages
within the district.
The Burst Holiday Activity Camp and Burst Play
tackle a wide range of issues – particularly rural deprivation and
affordable, high quality, school holiday provision.
The ‘camp’ will provide Ofsted registered
provision across the district every school holiday at sites in
Richmond, Catterick, Colburn and Leyburn. The camps provide a
wide range of activities to promote mental, social and physical
skill development as well as getting the youngsters in touch with
what the community has to offer.
As part of the new programme, ‘Burst Play’
will work with Surestart’s fully trained staff, travelling
throughout the district to deliver parent and child sessions on
health issues - nutrition and exercise habits as well as practical
fundamental skill development sessions. These sessions will
enrich what is available to both the town and rural communities
throughout Richmondshire, with the funding ensuring a more
sustainable active future for children and families in the
district.
