Colburn Primary School pupils took
lessons at the kerbside last month as part of a special
‘safety’ day.

Thirty youngsters spent Friday learning about
road safety - and helped police officers stop 18 speeding
motorists!
The drivers were stopped for exceeding the
speed limit as the children were shown how to use laser speed
guns. They were spoken to by a police officer – along with
the schoolchildren – to bring home the dangers of driving too fast,
especially in front of a school.
The children were also shown how the fire
service assist at motoring accidents, demonstrating some of the
equipment they use and were given road safety advice and took home
road safety accessories for themselves and other family
members.
“These action days are great opportunities for
children and community safety partners to engage in an activity
which will inform learning on both sides about road safety issues
in their community”, said Councillor Michael Heseltine, Chair of
Hambleton and Richmondshire Community Safety Partnership’s Road
Safety Task Group.
