Plans to light up Hambleton and
Richmondshire to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next year
are being supported by the District Councils.
A series of beacons will help mark the
landmark occasion – Her Majesty will light the national beacon in
London on June 4. And it is hoped that North Yorkshire
will see another 42 lit – six in each local authority area.
And although Hambleton and Richmondshire
District Councils will not be lighting their own beacons, they have
issued guidance on taking part in the
celebrations.
Beacons can be of two types - traditional
bonfire beacons or the church tower beacon which is fuelled by
bottled gas. They could be linked to small private
celebrations – or to larger events being organised through
community groups.
