A group that encourages disabled
across Hambleton and Richmondshire to ‘help’ each other has won
lottery funding.
Independus has been awarded a £9,800 grant
from the Awards for All pot to improve information and support by
using social activities and training.
It aims to give disabled people a stronger
voice and more power to shape their community and the services they
need.
And the voluntary group will be holding an
open forum in Northallerton next month to focus on how personal
funding for care services works.
The forum - at the Golden Lion on April 5 from
10am until 3pm – is open to everyone.
“People of all ages - older, disabled and
their carers – have come to us because they don’t know how personal
budgets work,” said Gillian James, development worker for the
charity.
“We are working with a number of organisations
- there will be some useful information on offer, including on
Direct Payments.”
Cash for the scheme has also come from
Yorkshire Bank, Yorkshire Building Society, the Co-operative
Foundation and Richmondshire District Council.
Power savers from EON will also be available
at the event which can be taken away in ‘bags for life’ donated by
Sainsburys in Northallerton.

event -or for more information - call Gillian on 01748 830856 or
