Richmondshire residents are being urged to nominate
their unsung heroes for awards.
The district council’s ‘Citizenship Awards’
take place next month – with prizes for individuals and businesses
that have made a real difference to the area up for grabs.
Now in their fourth year they have previously
seen honours go to Special Constable Alan Simpson
(volunteer of the year); Scorton Community Tea Room
(Community Initiative); James Yeadon (Young Person of the Year);
and Swaledale Cheese Company (Enterpreneur).
“There are so many people in the district who
do remarkable things – often without giving it a second thought,”
said Councillor Fleur Butler, Council Leader.
“These people are a key part of life in
Richmondshire, and our Citizenship Awards recognise their
contributions. The role of the Council is to provide services and
support for the people who live and work in the district – these
awards give them the praise they so richly deserve.
“I urge people to get involved and send in
their nominations.”
Awards will be presented in six
categories:
• Young
Person of the Year – for anyone up to the age of 25 who has
contributed to their community
•
Volunteer of the Year – for anyone who volunteers their time for
other people, causes or organisations in any way, shape or form
•
Community Initiative of the Year – for groups of people who have
come together to solve a problem or respond to an opportunity which
has benefited their community
•
Entrepreneur of the Year – for individuals who have, through their
business endeavours, made a significant contribution to the local
economy
• Best
Employer of the Year – for any business that encourages employee
growth and development, provides apprentice placements/training
that contributes to the development of the business and/or offer
local people a chance to learn a trade with career prospects
• Most
Innovative Business of the Year - for any businesses whose
innovative website, marketing campaign, event or other promotional
tool raises the profile of both that business, and the district as
a place to live, work or visit.
Any individual, group or organisation (public,
private or voluntary sector) can make a nomination. Forms are
available at
www.richmondshire.gov.uk/news-and-publications/citizenshipawards
or any community office. Closing date for nominations is
February 28.
