An innovative new scheme to help
talented athletes from across Richmondshire has been
launched.
The Richmondshire Talented Performers
Academy will provide aid for sports people of all ages – from
county standard upwards.
It will give discounts to sports
facilities, with the amount available dependent on the standard
competed at – county, regional, national and
international.
The project is being supported by:
Richmondshire Leisure Trust, Richmondshire Local Sports Council,
Catterick Leisure Centre, Colburn Sports and Fitness Centre,
Yorebridge Fitness Centre, Libertys Health and Fitness Gym, Angela
Stirk Sports Injuries and Physiotherapy, The Physio Suite Richmond,
Adventure Outdoors Limited Catterick and the Arjuna Ishaya Sports
Meditation Clinic.
Led by the Richmondshire Sports
Development Co-ordinator, Matt Prosser, the groups and businesses
have come together to form a support package covering a wide
variety of needs important to athletes – from physio and kit to
training facilities.
On top of this a talented athlete database
is being collated to track athlete progression and to note the
significant achievements of a wide range of athletes in the area so
that specific funding can be targeted at the athletes that need it
most.
“This academy will go a long way to
providing support to the talented pool of athletes we have in
Richmondshire,” said Matt.
“And it will help improve the service of
sports development in the district as a whole.”
