Colburn youngsters are being
encouraged to kick off the new school year with a healthy eating
regime.
Together with their families they are being
invited to join a new ten week after school club – MEND – which
promotes healthy living.
During the course the families will learn how
to eat more healthily and read food labels and the children will
also take part in fun physical activity sessions.
The programme - aimed at youngsters aged seven
to 13 – is made up of two hourly sessions a week for ten
weeks. Each session includes a one hour interactive workshop
for children and parents, and a one hour fun physical activity
session for the children while the parents have a discussion around
health. It starts on October 5.
“The MEND Programme is a fun way for
youngsters to get active and healthy while increasing their
confidence,” said Richard Tremere, MEND’s regional manager for
North Yorkshire. “Although some parents and children can be
nervous about coming on the programme, the families make fantastic
friends and see real long term changes to their health and
lifestyle. I would recommend the MEND Programme to any parent in
Colburn who is concerned about their child’s weight.”
The MEND Programme, which was devised by
experts at Great Ormond Street Hospital, usually costs £400 but
thanks to Big Lottery Fund is free in Colburn.
