Free Seminar
Land owners and family-run rural businesses in North Yorkshire
face many complex challenges. Not least among them is succession
planning – who will take over when the business owner retires? How
will the next generation benefit best from all the hard work that
made these businesses profitable?
Business Link Yorkshire has organised a free
seminar, ‘Succession Planning,’ at the Bolton Arms Hotel in Leyburn
on Thursday 24 February aimed at helping such businesses plan for
the future. Topics include how to save thousands of pounds in tax,
how to value business assets, and wills, trusts and deeds of
gift.
Research shows only about a third of family
businesses survive to the second generation and only one in ten to
the third generation. This is often because they have failed to
manage the challenges of organisational change.
The ‘Succession Planning’ event, from 6.30pm
to 9pm, offers presentations from experts Coles Solicitors,
property services firm George F White and chartered accountants
Kenneth Easby. All are highly experienced in the rural economy.
Kevin Guy, from George F White, said,
“Planning for the next generation is something which many postpone
doing because there are usually more pressing issues. However, in
my experience, those parties who understand their position and are
willing to review that constantly, often find themselves being able
to maximise that position – which they have worked hard to create
for the benefit of the next generation.”
Kevin will give a presentation entitled
‘Planning for the Future’ at the Business Link Leyburn event. Other
presentations are ‘Succession Planning,’ from Kenneth Easby’s Ken
Graham and ‘Prepare to Plan or Plan to Fail’ by Peter Gibson from
Coles Solicitors. Business Link Yorkshire closes the event which
ends with a buffet.
