More than 1300 young people called into Richmond Castle last week to listen to ten hours of live music.
Twenty six bands took to the stage at the ’Castle Calling’ festival on Friday (August 20).
Sunderland based rock band, the Futureheads, headlined the event – their hour long set wrapped up the days music. But the four man group were supported by a host of international and local talent.

Darwin Deez, Johnny Foreigner, Little Comets, Detroit Social Club, Young Rebel Set, Sound of Guns, Minaars, The Kabeedies, Only Animals, Get Educated, Utah Saints, Matt and Warick, My Lost Youth, The Kavaliers, Rise from the Ashes, Misled Icons, The Shadracks, Cold Pistols, The Weeknights, Infuson, Four Year Winter and The Pinstripes also played.
“We’re really pleased with how the event went, despite the poor weather,” said organiser Simon Fletcher. “Seeing the marquee tent - which showcased young local musicians - full throughout the day was probably the highlight. The atmosphere on site was fantastic and everyone involved went away having had a great time.”
It was the second Castle Calling organised by the Richmondshire District Youth Council in answer to a call from young people seeking something to occupy their long summer holidays. Youth council members worked with Richmondshire District Council, Richmond Town Council, Connecting Youth Culture, 4Youth and English Heritage staff to make the event a success.
Richmondshire Community Safety Partnership promoted drinking and speeding initiatives and health officers were on hand to discuss health issues. And there were workshops in banner painting, Manga drawing (Japanese comics), music production and photography throughout the day.
