Richmond residents living in rural
areas can find out how to save money on their heating bills and
issues surrounding fuel poverty next week.
Over 5 million people in the UK are currently
spending more that 10% of their household income heating their
homes to a reasonable level. This defines them as living in a fuel
disadvantaged household. This figure is bound to increase as
domestic heating fuel becomes even more expensive.
Residents who live in rural communities with
no access to mains gas, are extremely limited as to the types of
fuel that they can use as they tend to be the most expensive. Rural
communities will therefore be amongst the hardest hit.
Calor are working with a number of
organisations such as Rural Action Yorkshire, National Energy
Action, Yorkshire Energy Partnership and DEFRA to give rural
households advice on energy efficiency measures. The project aims
to inform people about suitable insulation for homes and the
availability of discounted schemes and grants.
The Calor FREE Energy Advice Project will have
a stand at Reeth market on Friday 2 September and Muker Show on
Wednesday 7 September - there will be practical, independent advice
and information available from fuel choices, energy efficiency
measures, technologies and carbon reduction techniques.
Anyone wanting any further information on the
Calor FREE Energy Advice Project can contact Peter Hirschfeld,
Project Officer on behalf of Rural Action Yorkshire, on 01430
434047.
