May 5 will see elections for 44 councillors in 30 wards
in the Hambleton area and 34 councillors in 24 wards in
Richmondshire.
On March 18 a 'notice of election' will be published by both
authorities giving details of the electoral areas, the date and
time of the election, the number of councillors to be elected for
each ward and the timetable for proposing candidates. Nomination
packs will be available from March 14. Completed nomination papers
can be submitted to the relevant Council's Election's Office from
March 18 until noon on April 4.
Only if there are more candidates than vacancies in each ward
will there be an election - on May 5.
Anyone interested in standing as a candidate can get a
nomination pack by calling Hambleton's election office on 01609
767131 or Richmondshire's election office on 01748 827096.
A copy of a booklet detailing what is entailed in council work
in Hambleton is now available. 'Becoming a councillor' can be
collected from council offices in Northallerton, Stokesley and
Easingwold or downloaded on www.hambleton.gov.uk. A similar booklet
for Richmondshire will be available at offices in Richmond, Hawes,
Colburn, Reeth and Leyburn or downloaded from
www.richmondshire.gov.uk from March 10.
- May 5 will also see elections for parish councillors across the
two districts and the national yes/no referendum on future voting
methods for general elections
