Hambleton and Richmondshire residents
are being urged not to be ‘on the receiving end’ of domestic abuse
this Christmas.

A hard hitting poster campaign designed to
raise awareness and how sufferers can get help over the Christmas
period, is being launched by the Hambleton and Richmondshire
Community Safety Partnerships this week.
Posters bearing the words ‘Don’t be on the
receiving end’ and ‘Not everyone gets what they wish for at
Christmas’ have been distributed to local agencies and businesses
within the two districts.
“Christmas is meant to be a happy time for
families but for many living in our districts it will be a time of
fear and pain,” said Sarah Hill, Director of Independent Domestic
Abuse Services.
“The pressure builds up as people spend more
time together than normal - which can often be a flash point for
abuse. But we are here and ready to help – to listen or to
provide some shelter.”
Anyone needing help or advice over the
Christmas period should ring Independent Domestic Abuse Services on
01904 646630.
- Over two women per week are killed by current
or ex-partners, and one in four women in the UK will experience
domestic violence in their lifetime.
