A team of ‘champions’ is providing
early support to victims of domestic abuse across Hambleton and
Richmondshire.
The 30 trained professionals – from a range of
agencies and organisations - ensure sufferers get the right
assistance at the right time. And they can offer the same
support to children affected by abuse.
The scheme set up by the Hambleton and
Richmondshire Community Safety Partnership in partnership with IDAS
(Independent Domestic Abuse Service) and North Yorkshire Children
and Young Peoples Strategic Partnership bring together a host of
various agencies.
It aims to provide ‘champions’ with practical
information on how to recognise domestic abuse and to get the
victim the support they need. It also gives them an increased
knowledge of why people live with domestic abuse, the impact
domestic abuse has on adults and children and what local services
are available.
“It is great that so many agencies have
committed to the champions scheme," said Sarah Hill, Director of
IDAS.
“It’s only by working together that we can
help end the misery and fear that domestic violence causes.”
And Richmondshire District Councillor Linda
Curran, who attended a special training event for champions, added:
“This was a very positive and rewarding event. Having met the
existing and new Champions, they are all motivated and clearly
committed to providing support to victims and children involved in
domestic abuse. This is particularly welcome in a rural area
like Hambleton and Richmondshire.”
