Richmondshire residents are being
urged to have their say on possible cuts to council services or
delivering them in a different way.
The District Council may be faced with a 28%
reduction in central government grant following this weeks
comprehensive spending review announcement – a reduction that can
only be made by reducing costs and services.
“We have some difficult decisions to take –
decisions that could see services reduced or even lost,” said
Council Leader Councillor Fleur Butler.
“We have identified substantial
efficiency savings and shared service work with Hambleton District
Council has already brought in considerable sums which will lessen
the blow. But uppermost in our minds is to be able to
continue to deliver good services for our residents – and services
that they want.
“We will be working on areas for budget review
over the autumn. To help with this we want to hear from our
residents – we promise to listen to what they have to say and act
where we can.”
The Public Spending Review unveiled an annual
reduction of 7.1% in funding from central government to local
authorities over four years. The actual amount will not be
known until later this year following the announcement of the Local
Government Finance Settlements.
To have a say fill in the
online questionnaire or contact Cllr
Butler at Swale House, Frenchgate, Richmond, DL10 4JE by the end of
November.
