Richmondshire’s two Tourist Information Centres raised nearly £100 for the 2010 ‘Flowers of the Dales Festival’.

Both the Richmond and Leyburn centres supported the festival by running flower competitions and quizzes throughout May and June raising £99.97.
Judged by Richmondshire District Council’s Chairman Councillor Yvonne Peacock (pictured) the competition winners were:
Childrens drawing and colouring competion; Laura Murray (aged 9) from Glasgow and Martha Tikadar (aged 3) from Elland who both won a soft toy and Dylan Guckel (aged 6) from Richmond won a ‘I spy – Wild Flowers’ book.
Photographic competition; Andrew Fletcher from Kent received a ‘Hay Time in the Yorkshire Dales’ book signed by John Craven and ‘Name the Wildflower competition’ was won by Hilda Thompson from Little Crakehall who received a ‘Wild Flowers’ book by Collins.
Running until October the festival hosts a wide range of events and activities to help discover and celebrate the wildflower habitats of the Yorkshire Dales.
The events are run by a wide range of partnership organisations and individuals throughout the Dales with the Festival co-ordinated by the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT), a charity that works to support the environmental, social and economic well-being of the area.
Richmond TIC is still selling copies of the £12 Hay Time books & £1 Flowers & grasses books.
