Richmondshire’s two Tourist Information Centres raised nearly £100  for the 2010 ‘Flowers of the Dales Festival’.

Both the Richmond and Leyburn centres supported the festival by running flower competitions and quizzes throughout May and June raising  £99.97.

Judged by Richmondshire District Council’s Chairman Councillor Yvonne Peacock  (pictured) the competition winners were:

Childrens drawing and colouring competion; Laura Murray (aged 9) from Glasgow and Martha Tikadar  (aged 3) from Elland  who both won a soft toy and Dylan Guckel (aged 6) from Richmond  won a ‘I spy – Wild Flowers’ book.

Photographic competition; Andrew Fletcher from Kent  received a ‘Hay Time in the Yorkshire Dales’ book signed by John Craven and  ‘Name the Wildflower competition’ was won by Hilda Thompson from Little Crakehall who received a ‘Wild Flowers’ book by Collins.

Running until October the festival hosts a wide range of events and activities to help discover and celebrate the wildflower habitats of the Yorkshire Dales.

The events are run by a wide range of partnership organisations and individuals throughout the Dales with the Festival co-ordinated by the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT), a charity that works to support the environmental, social and economic well-being of the area.

Richmond TIC is still selling copies of the £12 Hay Time books & £1 Flowers & grasses books.
