Two Richmondshire based ‘hubs’ have
been set up to trial a local organic food buying
scheme.
The hubs will take delivery of pre-ordered
food as part of a scheme to improve health by making fresh organic
fruit and vegetables more accessible - and reduce food miles.
TRY- Growing Food Together, a Transition Town
community group has joined forces with the Green Neighbourhood
Challenge team from the St John’s Centre at Catterick Garrison and
West End Stores in Richmond for the scheme – with produce coming
from Richmondshire growers, Bluebell Organics.
The trial allows people to order the specific
items they want (£5 minimum), or a set veg box. They can
choose to collect it from either of the two existing community
hubs, or set up a new delivery hub with at least 10 other people in
their neighbourhood or workplace. That can be anywhere within
50 miles of Richmond, with each organiser getting up to £10.50
worth of produce for free.
