A new initiative to help overweight youngsters and their families MEND their ways comes to Richmondshire next month.
The MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition…Do it!) programme is part of a national project offering courses for overweight 7 to 13 year olds and their families in more than 250 locations across the UK.
Kicking off in Colburn at the end of September - Hambleton and Richmondshire District Councils are working in partnership with NHS North Yorkshire and thanks to funding from the Big Lottery Fund 12 free places - worth up to £400 per child - are being offered to families on a first come first served basis.
“Families take part in two hour sessions twice a week for the ten weeks – designed to help them improve their eating and exercise habits in order to improve children’s fitness, physical activity levels, nutrition and self-esteem,” said Lesley Williams, Mend programme Manager in Hambleton and Richmondshire.
“MEND is also a great way to make lasting friendships. We hope that many more families will take up this opportunity to turn their lives around and apply for a place on the programme.”
If you have concerns about your child’s weight and lifestyle contact Lesley Williams on (01609) 767242 or Lesley.williams@hambleton.gov.uk for further details of the scheme.
