Families have celebrated the long
awaited completion of a play park in Richmondshire.

A massive £40,000 has been spent upgrading the
Piper Hill facility in Colburn providing new fixed play equipment,
refurbishing existing equipment and landscaping the area.
The project is one of 18 schemes being
co-ordinated by North Yorkshire County Council with funding from
the Department of Education Playbuilder programme for North
Yorkshire this year.
Members of the Richmondshire Play Partnership
have been working for the past three years to develop a play
strategy and action plan for the district - which has also
attracted investment from the Big Lottery Children’s Fund.
“Seeing another one of our schemes reach
fruition is a marvellous achievement for the Play Partnership,”
said Partnership Chairman, Jane Branch.
“We are working hard to improve play provision
for children right across the district.”
The Mayor of Colburn Town Council, Bev
Partridge opened the family fun day which also saw a range of
partners join forces to stage events. They included Colburn
Town Council, Richmondshire Play Partnership, Richmondshire
District Council, Hambleton and Richmondshire Community Safety
Partnership, North Yorkshire County Council’s 4 Youth Services and
Adult Learning & Skills Service, Working Together in Colburn,
Colburn Children’s Centre, North Riding FA, Richmondshire Leisure
Trust, North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service, North Yorkshire
Youth, North Yorkshire Police Service and the Richmondshire and
Hambleton Play Ranger.
